March 29 - April 2, 2005
OPENING: Tuesday, March 29, 11.30 am
The university city of Pavia had a particular role in Einstein's
life, being the place where he temporarily moved from Munich before completing
his education in Switzerland. In the town we still have historical places witnessing
the life of young Einstein here; a few letters and documents, conserved in the
University archives, still convey the sense of a special formative experience
for the future scientist. It is with
this sense of historical perspective that, on the occasion of the centenary
of Einstein's 1905 landmark paper, the University of Pavia has
organized an international meeting celebrating the birth of Relativity.
This meeting will have a strong international character, with selected invited
speakers, addressing general themes of Relativity (special,
general and cosmological) of vast impact in present-day science.
List of Invited Speakers:
- A. Ashtekar (Penn State University): Geometry, Gravity and the
Quantum: Building on Einstein's Legacy
- M. Bojowald (Albert-Einstein-Institute, Potsdam): Quantum Geometry of
Black Holes and Cosmology
